Vintage 2004
Production area: Montalcino - Siena - Località Sant’Angelo in Colle. Hilly lands oriented South-South/West.
Vineyards: Olmaia. Average height: 350 m. above sea level. Planted in 1984.
Weather conditions: Optimal weather conditions. Good spring raininess, regular warm temperatures in July and August with some pleasant rainstorms.. The vines have led grapes to perfect maturation. After some anticipated harvests the 2004 vintage has been regular.
Grapes: Cabernet Sauvignon, clones coming from Bordeaux with loose bunch of a reduced size. Vintage 2004 yield: 55 q/ha. Manual harvest with rigorous selection of the best bunches, which takes place at first in the vineyards and subsequently on a selection table in the cellar.
Vinification: Fermentation in 100 Hl short and wide stainless steel tanks, that allow an extended surface of skins-juice contact. This gives an excellent extraction of the polyphenolic richness of the skins. Maceration lasts about 20 days at a controlled temperature below 30°C.
Ageing: 18 months in new Allier, Tronçais, Fontainebleau and Blois 225 l. oak barriques followed by more than one year of ageing in bottle.
Main Features
Colour: Very deep with shining purple hues.
Bouquet: Great harmony between the noble varietals components – largely dominating – and the oak spices.
Flavour: The Cabernet, due to its “elévage” in the barrique, remember “international” sensations but its strong tannic structure brings to our terroir of Montalcino leaving an unforgettable afterstaste.
